Johanna Poethig, Intertwined

2009, Glide Memorial Housing, San Francisco, CA

This public artwork created for 149 Mason Street Studios, new low income housing in the Tenderloin neighborhood for single individuals, visually communicates the way we are all connected to each other through the values of love, compassion and activism.

It is a hand-cut and glazed ceramic ribbon that wraps the 8 story building starting at the entrance and then around the side to the top of the building. "Welcome" at the entrance greets the residents as they enter the building. We are all intertwined and this artwork expresses that eloquently in its simple form and content.
