Lynne Baer + Art Projects is an art advisory and project management group providing a full range of services related to art in public spaces with a special focus on the unique circumstances of health care environments and non-profit institutions.
Lynne Baer is an Independent Art Advisor and Appraiser with more than twenty-five years of experience. She works with private clients, public entities, private non-profit foundations, developers, and corporations to commission site-specific artworks, create temporary exhibitions and permanent collections, and develop guidelines and procedures for art programs. In her role as an appraiser, Lynne has researched and written formal appraisals in the fine arts including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and ceramics for corporations, lawyers, museums, and private clients.
Lynne’s strength and expertise is in collaborating effectively with clients to understand their objectives, goals and budget parameters and execute their vision. Her long-standing involvement with the Bay Area, national, and international art world, relationships with museums and galleries, and knowledge and access to the range of artists from international to emerging, position her to recommend work that is timeless, innovative, and exciting.
Currently, Lynne is engaged in placing art in affordable housing projects in San Francisco, Richmond, CA and East Palo Alto. The projects involve community participation and integration into the design of the buildings as well as interacting with city departments and Arts Commissions.
From 2010 to 2016, Lynne advised The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center in the selection of art for three new hospitals in Mission Bay, completed in 2015. Commissioned artists include Jessica Stockholder, Spencer Finch, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, and Clare Rojas. This was a continuation of her work with UCSF where she was instrumental in developing the philosophy and implementation of art programs on the Parnassus and Laurel Heights campuses. Projects included temporary exhibitions of works from museum collections such as sculptures by Rodin from the Fine Arts Museums, Chinese Porcelain from the Asian Museum, and works by Isamu Noguchi from the Noguchi Foundation as well as the purchasing of two-dimensional artworks for the library and campus buildings. The commissioning of site-specific works focused on both Bay Area and National artists such as Catherine Wagner, Jon Rubin, Rebeca Bollinger, Jim Campbell, and Sarah Sze.
In addition, Lynne has worked with the Glide Foundation and Bridge Housing as well as provided guidance in the placement and acquisition of artworks for private foundations such as the Packard Foundation and Mother Jones. Lynne has advised in the communities of Dublin, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Emeryville, Santa Clara, and Antioch for the commissioning of public art and the creation of public art master plans.
Lynne graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honors and received a Master's Degree in Art History specializing in WPA art of the 1930s from the University of California, Davis. Before striking out on her own, Lynne was Director of the Fine Arts Department at Butterfield & Butterfield Auctioneers and held various positions at the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC, San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Oakland Museum. She has also lectured on investing in art and art in public places at institutions locally and nationally. She has served on the board of Capp Street Project, the local chapter of ArtTable, the Judah Magnes Museum, Berkeley and the Public Art Advisory Committee for the Alameda County Arts Commission.
